Here’s a quick vid of the Denix-made Kentucky flintlock non-firing replica rifle. The manufacturer specs indicate that it is 45″ long, but my measurements put it at 42″ overall length. Please keep in mind that an authentic Kentucky flintlock would be over 65″ long. This Denix reproduction is classified as a shorter length carbine version, or a “plains rifle”.
It has wood stock, brass fittings, and complete with a wooden loading rod. This rod is removable from underneath the barrel. However, the barrel is plugged, and the tamping rod cannot be inserted into it. Great for display, costume, or prop use. More Colonial Replica Rifles at Replica Armory.
The Kentucky Rifle
The Kentucky rifle is the longest piece in the catalog and the one with the most wood. It was a hunting gun rather than a military one, built with a small bore and a long barrel to use less powder and shoot more accurately, and the brass patch box in the stock was a real feature, not decoration.
The flintlock on the replica is fully modelled: the cock, the frizzen and the pan all move. That is the part to protect. The frizzen spring is light and the screw that holds it is small, and once the spring is bent the lock will not snap properly. Move it a few times to show someone how it worked, then leave it alone.
Common questions
Does the flintlock work?
The cock and frizzen move like the original, but there is no vent and no charge, so it cannot fire.
How long is the Kentucky rifle replica?
Around 140 centimetres, which makes it the longest piece in the catalog.
