Real and replica Walther PPK comparison

I recently got a request to do a video on the Denix non-firing replica of the Walther PPK.   This time, you get the added bonus of seeing a real PPK alongside a replica PPK.  Germans really make cool guns.  The Denix replica is cool too, but much, much more inexpensive than the real thing!

Real PPK and Replica Side by Side

The PPK is small enough that the differences between a real one and a replica are easier to spot than on a full size pistol. The slide serrations, the safety lever and the magazine floor plate are all small parts, and on a cast replica they are softer and slightly rounded where the original is machined.

The weight is the other giveaway. A real PPK is steel and feels dense for its size; the replica is lighter and the balance sits differently in the hand. That does not matter for a display, and it matters a little for a costume, because a heavy pistol drags a pocket out of shape. If you are carrying it, a proper pocket holster fixes that.

Common questions

Can you tell the difference by weight?
Yes. A real PPK is steel and noticeably denser than the cast replica.

Does the replica fit PPK holsters?
It is the same scale, so a holster cut for the PPK pattern will fit, though the finish may wear faster.
