Here is just a short video showing the “US grips” version of the Japanese non-firing replica of the 1911. It is the same as the 01-300, except with US grips. The part number for this one is 01-300-US. To see a more detailed look at the 01-300, see this replica gun video I made several months ago.
The US Grip Version
The grips are what make this version interesting. The standard 1911 replica ships with plain black or brown plastic, but the US marked grips place the gun in a specific period: the second world war, when the marking was stamped into brown plastic rather than checkered wood. It is a small detail that changes the read of the whole piece.
Because the grips are held by the original screw pattern, they can be swapped, and swapping them is the cheapest way to change the character of a replica. Brown US grips and a parkerised finish read as service issue; black grips and nickel read as a 1980s film prop. Both are correct for the frame, and neither is more accurate than the other without a period attached to it.
Common questions
Can I change the grips?
Yes, they use the original screw pattern, so most 1911 grips will fit the replica frame.
Is the gun parkerised or blued?
The finish varies by version. Check the product page for the exact finish before ordering matching leather.
