18th Century Naval Cannon
About the 18th Century Naval Cannon
18th Century Naval Cannon is a non-firing reproduction finished in standard, built to the same scale as the original and supplied ready to display. The barrel is a solid casting and the chambers are blind, so nothing can be loaded or fired, while the mechanism still moves the way the original does. That is what makes it useful for a display case, a costume or a close up photograph.
Semi automatic replicas are judged on three things: the profile, the finish and the weight. The 1911 pattern is the most requested because it is instantly recognisable on camera, and the same frame is offered in government, commander and compact lengths. A full size 1911 with wood grips reads as a service pistol from the 1940s; the same gun in nickel with black grips reads as a 1980s movie prop.
Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators: the standard finish fades unevenly in sunlight and heat dries the wood. A light coat of oil on a cloth, wiped over the metal twice a year, is enough. Store it in a cabinet or a presentation box rather than a foam case, because foam holds moisture against the metal.
