Miniature Cannons

Miniature Cannons

The miniature cannons here are desk and shelf pieces scaled down from field and naval guns: barrel, carriage, wheels and an elevation screw, in bronze, brass and iron finishes. Sizes run from ten to twenty centimetres, and the barrels are solid so nothing can be loaded.

They are the most popular gift in the display section because they suit an office, a study or a mantelpiece without needing a wall. The wheels are pinned rather than bolted, so lift the cannon to move it instead of rolling it across a desk, and check the pins once a year. A drop of epoxy in a loose axle hole is usually the only repair they ever need.

Miniature Cannons and Desk Pieces

A miniature cannon is a desk piece with a working look: barrel, carriage, wheels and Elevation screw, scaled down to between ten and twenty centimetres. They are cast in the same zinc alloy as the guns and finished in bronze, brass or iron tones, and the barrels are solid so they cannot be loaded.

The carriage is the fragile part. Wheels are pinned, not bolted, and the pins will work loose if the cannon is rolled across a desk. Lift it, do not push it, and check the pins once a year. If a wheel wobbles, a drop of epoxy in the axle hole will fix it without changing the look.

Common questions

Can the cannon fire?
No. It is a solid, non-firing miniature with a blocked barrel, made for display only.

Do the wheels turn?
Yes, the wheels are pinned and roll, and the elevation screw raises and lowers the barrel.

What size is it?
Sizes vary by model, roughly ten to twenty centimetres long. The product page lists the exact dimensions and weight.
