Front Firing Blank Guns

Front Firing Blank Guns

Front firing models vent the blast out of the muzzle instead of the top of the slide, which is the closest a blank gun gets to the behaviour of a real firearm. The flame, the smoke and the direction of the report all come forward, so on camera or in a reenactment line the effect reads correctly instead of puffing out of an invisible slot above the barrel.

The trade off is louder and dirtier operation. Residue builds up in the muzzle and around the front of the slide, and the flash is bright enough that eye protection matters for anyone within a few metres. Front venting models are also the pattern most often restricted by local rules, so check the requirements in your country before ordering.

Understanding Blank Firing Guns

A blank gun is a real firearm mechanism that fires powder without a projectile. The barrel or the top of the chamber is vented, so the gas escapes upward or forward instead of pushing a bullet. That vent is what makes the gun legal in most of Europe and it is also the reason the noise is sharper than a replica cap gun.

Two families are sold here. Front venting models look like the original from the side and throw flame and smoke forward, which is why reenactors prefer them. Top venting models are the more common and cheaper pattern, and the vent is hidden between the barrel and the slide. Neither type can be converted to fire live ammunition without destroying the barrel, which is exactly the point of the design.

Common questions

Is a blank gun a real firearm?
It is a real mechanism built to fire blanks only, with a vented barrel that makes it unable to chamber or fire a projectile. Local law treats it as a replica or a blank firing weapon depending on the country.

Which blanks does it take?
Each model lists its chambering on the product page, usually 9mm PAK, .380 or 8mm. Never use a different size, and never use live ammunition.

Do I need hearing protection?
For repeated firing, yes. A blank gun is comparable in volume to a small firearm and the noise carries a long way, which is also why neighbours may react.
